Launching in September 2007, the Interdisciplinary Research Consortium on Stress, Self Control and Addiction (IRCSSA) includes over 50 leading scientists from Yale University, Florida State University, and University of California-Irvine. Under the direction of Dr. Rajita Sinha (Yale University School of Medicine), these experts will collaborate as a team to address the problem of stress and self control in the addictive behaviors of cigarette smoking, alcohol drinking and overeating.
This consortium is committed to a collaborative team-based interdisciplinary approach to the systematic study of the interactions between stress, self-control and addiction, across the multiple brain, body, behavioral and social systems. The objectives of this consortium are to develop new pharmacological, behavioral and social interventions to help people decrease stress and gain better self control over their addiction.
